De manera descriptiva y comparativa, este artículo analiza un conjunto de asentamientos informales de la ciudad de Posadas (Argentina), poniendo énfasis no sólo en las condiciones socio-habitacionales de la población sino también en la estructura de oportunidades vinculadas a su lugar de vida. Partimos del supuesto de que la ubicación en el espacio oficia como una estructura de oportunidades con efectos directos en la calidad de vida de sus residentes, de modo que el entorno inmediato posibilita o no el acceso a externalidades diversas, como bienes y servicios y la participación en determinadas actividades y procesos sociales. Así, al margen de las condiciones del hábitat, el estudio aborda los constreñimientos estructurales de las políticas urbanas en relación a las condiciones de existencia que atraviesa la población, sin olvidar las prácticas individuales y/o colectivas que desarrollan para sortear las dificultades cotidianas.

Informal settlements and urban space: accessibility, opportunity structures and adversities. An aproach based on case studies
In a descriptive and comparative way, this article analyzes a set of informal settlements in the city of Posadas (Argentina), emphasizing not only the socio-housing and habitat conditions, but also the structures of opportunities associated to the place of life within of the urban space in which they reside. We depart from the assumption that the location in the space works as an structure of opportunities directly affecting residents’ living standards. Thus, the immediate environment might facilitate or not the access to various externalities, such as goods and services and the participation in certain activities and social processes. Thereby, beyond the habitat conditions, the study explores the structural constraints of urban policies, in relation to the conditions of existence that the residents are going through. In addition, it puts in focus of analysis the practices (individual and / or collective) that they develop to overcome the daily difficulties.
